Genealogy - Genealogia
Want to Learn More About Your Family tree? Even if you have never done genealogy yourself - it is quite possible you may easily be able to find information about your family tree and trace it back various generations. Here, for example, are various family ancestral lines of members of our stake found on-line - that trace back more then a century. John Hilton Family Tree:http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=louisbona&id=I520348154 Bishop Tyler Family Tree:http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=kimbar&id=I05756 President Jeff Wing Family Tree:http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=mewingnut&id=I2072010 Brother Yancey Family Tree:http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=dyancey&id=I10194 Here are some databases you may wish to check for information on YOUR family: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi http://www.familysearch.org/ http://www.ellisisland.org/ www.familyhistoryarchive.byu.edu Now's the time - to start gathering information about your family tree. There is a lot of information on line that was never available in decades past. However, also realize that in many cases (especially for people from other countries and members who are recent converts) - your best source of information will normally be your own extended family and your contact with them (in person, by phone, email or letter). Now one point to emphasize - It DOESNT matter whether you are able to trace your line back 10 generations or just 1 or 2. What is important is that we do the work for the names that we can gather - whether that be just ONE name or ONE HUNDRED. Each one of us members will be able to log on to New Family Search - and view our own family tree and be able to quickly and easily see what temple work has been done - and initiate the process to get the temple work done for those for whom it hasn't been completed.https://new.familysearch.org/en/action/unsec/welcome (remember that you will need your membership number and confirmation date - from your ward clerk to register for New Family Search) Our Invitation to YOU: Start gathering and organizing information concerning your family NOW - from both on line sources as well as family contacts. Your ancestors are waiting for the gospel blessings and ordinances of the temple. If you need help - or are not sure where or how to start or to look. Visit the Stake Family History Centerhttp://www.geocities.com/dyancey3/fhc.htmor reply to this email with your questions and challenges. For someone to be able to help you - you may try to gather the following information on one of your family lines (for example on your PATERNAL family line . . . the father of your father of your father . . . ) 1) Who on your Paternal Family line - is the oldest known ancestor? Name? Birth and Death Dates? 2) Who on your Paternal Family line - is the one to have most recently been deceased? (your father or your grandfather . . . ?) Do you have dates? Has temple work been done?
New Family Search Effective the end of August 2007, the current process of taking names to the temple (Temple Ready) will be changing dramatically. If you have any Temple Ready Diskettes they will need to be taken to the temple BEFORE the end of the month. (Any printed cards - will continue to be valid and useable). The NEW process for temple submission will be called "New Family Search" and will no longer involve a diskette. Members will be able to submit names for temple work via any Internet connection and the information will be sent electronically to the temple. This will be done via a new web site that members will have access to starting NEXT MONTH. Any members without Internet access can visit a local Family History Center. To access this new site - you will need to register with your membership number (normally written on your temple Recommend) and your date of confirmation. You can get this information from your ward clerk. Even if you don't know anything about Genealogy or Temple work you should still access the new site (next month) and see your Family Pedigree Chart - which in some cases the church has already filled out for you to some limited extant. You will find it interesting and easy to use. The new web site will be: http://new.familysearch.org <http://new.familysearch.org/> You may also be interested in the Family History Center Page at: http://www.geocities.com/dyancey3/fhc.htm <http://www.geocities.com/dyancey3/fhc.htm> You may also look to see if this database has info on any of your ancestors: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi <http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi> If you need any further assistance contact: Contact: Dennis Yancey - dyancey@miami.edu <mailto:dyancey@miami.edu>
